about tom

about 2.0

I haven’t messed about with the “about” page for quite some time. I thought it might be due for an update. Some things hold absolutely true: I am a fan of the scientific understanding of the world and the rejection of mysticism. I love chocolate, poetry, music, art, etc.

I also like less “cultured” things. I play video games (mostly Rock band 2 and Warhammer Online) and read sci-fi and fantasy novels in addition to Marquez and Calvino.

Tom around the web

While the only way to get ahold of me is to track me down in person, I can be emailed at Tom [at] fallenverses [dot] org. Sometimes people even get replies. Also, I from time to time visit a few other sites. Listed in, more or less, the order they get my attention:

I also belong to a few social networks on Ning:

And I plan on failing at NaNoWriMo 2008. The page documenting my faltering page count should be here.

Copyright

I think copyright is a good thing, but that perhaps we have too much control in this country. The
nature of conversation, both real and the somewhat metaphorical creative conversation,
involves an interplay of ideas. As people and as artists we borrow, refer, steal, mimic, parody,
etc. and current copyright laws aren’t very welcoming of that. For my part, I have decided to
license all original content on this site under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share
Alike 3.0 United States
license. What this means is you can use, copy, redistribute, remix any
original content but there are certain caveats. First- attribution: let people know you’re using my
work or copying it or whatever it is you’re doing. Including “fallenverses.org” is what I consider
to be the acceptable minimum. Second- noncommercial: if you want to use my work, it has to be for non-commercial purposes. Third- share-alike: if you use my work, you have to release the work it is included in under a compatible license. I require this because I figure if you want to use my work to further your part of the conversation, you should allow the same freedom to others. If you want to use some of my original content in a manner that is incompatible with those provisions, you would have to contact me to seek permission.
